The purpose of the Lavender Hearth Co-op is two fold. First, to provide continuously affordable housing to trans people in the Denver metro area by pooling together and sharing resources. This includes temporarily housing trans people in need for free in order to alleviate the homelessness crisis that disproportionately affects our community. Second, to foster community by providing a space where trans people can gather, socialize, organize, and bond. The Lavender Hearth Co-op is explicitly organized around socialist principles. It does not aim to create profit, but instead seeks to decrease the cost of living for trans folks by socializing and democratizing housing.
Goals:
- Provide low-cost housing to trans people in the Denver area
- Temporarily house trans people in need for free
- Create a community space for trans people
- Be a “by trans people, for trans people” communal living alternative to other non-profit and for-profit housing organizations
- Be a long-standing democratic center for trans power
Pave the way for future projects with similar goals (build and spread trans power)
